Archeo Slow A Volterra

Archeo Slow In Volterra

This weekend is the first weekend of summer and the official start of the 2015 tourist season. Tuscany will be teeming with events (about 500 in total), all part of the third edition of "Toscana Arcobaleno d’Estate" (Tuscany Rainbow Summer): a veritable feast involving the beaches and squares of our region. And while Volterra is on show at "Fuori Expo" in Milan, on Saturday in San Giusto there's "Archeo Slow": an educational and cultural Slow Food project devoted to the exploration and promotion of the historic, archaeological and gastronomic legacy of the local area.

The project involves the Volterra - Alta Valle del Cecina Slow Food Group and envisages the special opening of the Casa Museo Consortini (Consortini House Museum). It has been organised in collaboration with the Museum and the FISAR contingent of Volterra, with sponsorship by the Municipality and the CRV Foundation. The programme starts at 6.30 p.m. with a walk on the Etruscan walls that surround the village of San Giusto, and includes a dinner featuring local products from Volterra. The visit to the Consortini collection, with the work of this sculptor and master craftsman, also provides a good opportunity for residents and tourists to enjoy the beauties of the village of San Giusto, including the Church, the Camaldolese Abbey and the Cliffs.

Agosto 2015: I 10 Anni Del Teatro Del Silenzio

August 2015: 10 Years Of The Theatre Of Silence
After the unforgettable 2014 edition conducted by Placido Domingo, the Theatre of Silence celebrates its tenth anniversary with an exhibition and an exceptional cast. Fresh in 2015: the two nights that the celebrated tenor wanted to dedicate to his homeland.

On the first date, August 2 (already sold out), Bocelli will sing "Turandot" by Giacomo Puccini with the Choir and Orchestra "Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino" conducted by Zubin Mehta. For those who did not manage to get hold of the tickets, the Theatre of Silence will open its doors for the rehearsal scheduled for Friday, July 31, at 21.

On the second date, scheduled on August 4, Bocelli will perform with many internationally renowned artists to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Theatre. The first guests to be confirmed were Elisa, Gianna Nannini and the duo of cellists 2Cellos.

Other celebrated artists will join them, and among the possible appearances by Roberto Bolle and Renato Zero, we certainly look forward to a couple more surprises. The official confirmation will be issued shortly. Renato Zero may return to the Theatre's stage, after his performance of 2011.

The Colors Of The Night

White, Black, Pink, Red, and Blue: there are many colors of the nights organized for this summer. Pending the Red Night planned for Volterra next September 12, the Etruscan Coast is preparing for the fifth edition of "Blue Night" on Saturday, June 20 when the 100 km of seaboard from Livorno to Piombino will be packed with music and the colours and flavours of beach dancing, street markets, and fireworks.

Castagneto Carducci is to host the official opening of the Blue Night 2015 to celebrate the blue flags given to municipalities along all the the Etruscan Coast. An event-system rich in cultural, wine and food, and sports initiatives which for two days will bring together all the municipalities on the Livorno coast in a single event. Concerts, markets, shows, theme dinners, tastings, open museums and beach parties will be part of the events organized in the area - this year also recompensed by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) in favour of environmental sustainability and quality of life. For our guests, after the Alta Val di Cecina, the blue night of the Etruscan Coast could be the opportunity to visit and appreciate the Bassa Val di Cecina. Hotel Foresteria, at the same distance from all the centres on the Etruscan Coast, allows you to visit many of the villages overlooking the sea with a simple day trip. This is an obvious opportuity for us to suggest to you two places, Baratti and Populonia - a journey that represents a continuum with the Etruscan roots on which Volterra rests.

An area of saints and folk traditions
The "Palio del Cero", celebrated in Volterra around June 5th, has a long tradition of the town's districts making offerings of a certain amount of wax to the patron saints San Giusto and San Clemente The calendar of events organised in every corner of Tuscany is based around saints, and sees in the coming weeks celebrations of San Ranieri in Pisa (17 June) and the Madonna of Provenzano in Siena for the Palio on 2 July. Two events not to miss, along with the many celebrations that accompany the festivities: in Pisa on 16 June the riversides are lit up by thousands of candles for an impressive, fascinating and charming show of illuminations; in Siena, the Palio is preceded by rites and ceremonies that take you back in time and which prepare the "Campo" for the horse race itself.

The festivities remain unique in bringing residents and tourists onto the streets, attracting the interest of both sets of people, who for once watch the same thing at the same time and probably have the same sentiments of respect, curiosity and excitement that only these circumstances can incite. We suggest that you experience them first-hand, starting with the celebration of our saints, San Giusto and San Clemente, then continuing on to San Ranieri of Pisa and the Madonna dei Palii of Siena, scheduled for July and August. The Foresteria Hotel is the ideal destination – a crossroads indeed – for getting close up to the customs of this part of Tuscany.
